Neil Young - Come On Baby Let’s Go Downtown

(Tonight’s The Night)

Of all the ancient song-gods of the boomer years, secret Canadian Neil Young is said to be the one most worshipped by the OG indie-rockers we know and love.  Everyone from Franky Black to Westerberg to Mark Arm to Yngwie Malmsteen wanted to be Neil Young when they grew up, and for a long time I just couldn’t understand why.  I studied my Harvests and Gold Rushes and that one that sounds like the title of a Modest Mouse album and (aside from Mascis’s leisurely meowl) I couldn’t hear a thing that translated to that fuzzy Gen-X goodness.

Then one day I heard Tonight’s The Night, and it all made sense.

Also Zuma.
